Didn’t really think that the chrome kidneys went with the car, so they were replaced with some black OEM BMW kidneys:

I’ve been wondering: what happens to all the water that is used for fracking after it’s been used for fracking?

Want a slight used left side cup holder and center arm rest? I am replacing those in mine this weekend :D

Does the left side cup holder work? Then probably because the one in my E92 broke .
KingT- 60% of the time, it works every time

Some of it stays down in the formation, some of it comes back when you flow the well back, some of it comes back when you produce the well. Depends on the formation, among other things. Not 100% sure as that’s not what I did, I just put the water in the ground, and I’ve been out for over three years now.

There’s not a lot of data on fracking and groundwater contamination, as the Obama administration was touting it as a good way to build up out natural gas reserves, and thus very little research was done by the EPA into it’s effects on acquifers.
An EPA scientists did conclude that a fracking site in Wyoming contaminated an aquifer. Here’s a good article on it.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Injection_well
Some companies are starting to treat and
reuse the wastewater for future wells.
Almost all oil wells also produce salty water, as well as natural gas. The oil goes in tanks, the gas goes into a gathering system and on to a pipeline, and the water generally ends up getting trucked to a disposal/injection well.
The frac water that returns at the very
beginning of a well’s production
is referred to as “
flowback”.

That process must use a shit ton of water, though.

So they basically pump the water back into the ground? Isn’t it toxic to some degree?

The current non-regulatory nature of the EPA would suggest that there is no interest in finding out. The spice must flow.

Not just the current EPA . The Obama EPA didn’t give a shit either.
I’m currently in an environmental resource management graduate program with a focus on hydrology. It’s pretty concerning how much shit we, as a society, have allowed to be put into our water supply.

Meaning that it’s not going to change. But yes, credit where it’s due.

They pump it deep into the ground, in formations that have multiple, thick seals (impermeable rock layers) above them. Think a mile or more below aquifers. The problems arise when a bad operator (company) does a shitting job casing their wells (creating a concrete barrier around the wellbore) and there’s a leak somewhere between the surface and the deep formation they’re injecting into.
It’s all much more controlled/regulated that it was in the past. The industry knows if fracing is banned in the States
, they’re screwed, so they’re doing everything in their power to proceed as
safely and cleanly as possible.

Oil production is slowing way down right now. Rig count is dropping - down 20% from end of last year.
Folks used to talk about peak oil (global
supply), but now more are likely to talk about peak oil demand. I think it’s not out of the question by the end of the
next decade, as
big countries make big pushes toward electric cars
and clean power generation.

Mine is jammed the same way. I got a cheap replacement OEM part and gonna fix it this weekend. I can send you the old one.
My center armrest has 10 years of rubbing from my elbow and wore out the leather. So I got a replacement as well.

My spring broke, and none of the E90s in the junkyard had good cup holders. Think I might just swing for a cheap OEM replacement .
My armrest is still good, mainly because I don’t DD it.

Well, I am gonna disassmble mine soon. I am not sure what is broken, so if my spring is intact in the old one I will let you know.
